Plate Collection

Like many people, I have a deep love of all things fine china. It reminds me of helping my mother set the table for a fancy party or holiday meal. My mother is a big plate collector too. There was always the question, “which plates should we use?” My vote was always the Torquay Blue she got at the Mottahedeh sale room during High Point’s furniture market.

My challenge for this collection was to see if the beauty of these designs still translated with modest materials. Plates made of cheap plaster and tempera paints are about as far from fine china as you can get. If they were to get wet, they would dissolve. I love the dichotomy of rough texture and refined designs. Some of my absolute favorite patterns are here; I hope you find some of your favorites as well.

Thank you to Herend USA, Mottahedeh, and Royal Copenhagen for giving me permission to play with their beautiful designs.
